FRANCE-Cote Port

Omelette with Fine Herbs and FriesCaprese Salad

Honfleur is a beautiful seaside town with a great history. We suspect that our ancestors sailed to Nova Scotia, Canada, from this port in search of a new life. The day was quite chilly and rain was in the forecast during the first Saturday in March. We took pictures quickly and searched for a restaurant along the warf that had a reasonable vegetarian option. This was especially hard near the sea when almost everything had fish.

After narrowing it down to three restaurants, we decided on Cote Port because of its location. The windows were wide open, which let in a fairly rough chill as we reviewed the menu. All I remember saying was "The only thing I don't want is fries! I'm tired of fries." No doubt by that time my arteries were a little strained themselves. But, I laughed when my plate came and instead of the salad I expected with my omelette, I got fries. No matter. It was food. The quality of the omelette was so-so. After all, I like my eggs almost runny, and this one was very cooked. I also saw nothing very special about the herbs. The omelette was quite boring to me and to Paul as well. Paul had the caprese salad, which was also of a lower quality than we had had at other restaurants, but we were thankful for the meal considering we were lucky to eat anything that hadn't previously been swimming in the bay.

The award for the best dish at this restaurant went to my mom who really scored with a delicious and well-flavored pasta in pesto sauce. I also remember the plate itself being elegantly shaped into a sail matching the nautical theme of our surroundings.

I definitely salute the waiters who worked very hard to try to understand us. I'm sure our French was not perfect, but they put much effort into conversation and did not complain. With any restaurant, that's half the battle.
