Maitland Farmer's Market-New Location

The Maitland Farmer's Market outgrew its original location at Quinn Strong Park after just one year. The new location at Lake Lily Park is easily accessible from 17/92, a major highway and is where N. Maitland Ave. dead ends. The lake is across from Antonio's Restaurant where Paul took my parents to ask for my hand in marriage. (Yes, it really was a surprise.) And it's a shame the downstairs deli isn't open on Sundays for some fabulous dining at the end of the shopping experience. But then again, after purchasing such beautiful foods, why would you not want to go home and spend the rest of the day in the kitchen?

Parking was a significant problem at the previous park. Now, there are numerous businesses that are closed on Sunday, but allow you to park in their spaces. I found that what parking was available was very tight as the parking lots aren't used to being so busy and aren't meant to have a full stream of traffic going both directions at the same time. However, the stress of finding parking is well worth the relaxation and strolling around the lake with vendors lining both sides of the brick walk.

This was my first attempt at videoing. I generally am not required to carry a camera and enjoy just walking around staring and soaking everything in. I'm a nervous person and am not so much of a "get in your face" kind with (or without) a camera. I feel I did not do the set up justice.

There are two major fruit and vegetable stands. I prefer the smaller one and have sent friends to the gentleman. Traditionally, his prices are better and so is the service. He also operates a small grill. On this day, he had onions and corn on the cob. An absolutely beautiful site. Across from him was a tent with live music that you can hear as you walk down the sidewalks. There were many tastings going on--including of a newer vendor with pineapples and fresh orange juice. There are orchid and herb sellers as well as people showing off their handiwork with sewing or wood-working. This new location is great for incorporating good exercise by walking around the lake followed by a relaxation and chatting for adults while the children play on the jungle gym.

We are sad that the new Maitland Farmer's Market location is about a block farther away from us. We always enjoyed our walk around a large lake, Sybelia, to get to market on Sundays. I'm afraid we will be more tempted to drive to Lake Lily. We have yet to locate good bicycle parking. Will make a note of that and hopefully update in the future.
