Grilled Cheese with Bacon and Tomato Recipe

Grilled Cheese with Tomato and Bacon

I am very proud of this recipe. Becoming a vegetarian is a challenge, especially when some veggie meats don't taste the same as real meat. In my case, I prefer the meats that don't taste like meat because I'm a vegetarian because I don't like the taste of meat. For that reason, this recipe amuses me. I actually don't like this recipe because I think it tastes too much like meat. I recommend this as a taste-test for one who is debating making the switch.

Recipe for Grilled Cheese

  • Two slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 tab butter
  • 1/4 c. shredded mixed chese
  • Onion Powder in shaker
  • Garlic Powder in shaker
  • Two slices Morningstar Farms Breakfast Strips
  • 1 Roma Tomato, sliced

Barely cover the bottom of a small skillet with oil and heat on medium-high. When hot, place bacon strips in skillet and turn regularly until browned. Place on paper towel to drain. This should have left little to no oil in the skillet. Butter opposite sides of the pieces of bread so they match when put together as a sandwich. Sprinkle onion and garlic powder over butter and place first slice in skillet to cook. Immediately top with cheese followed by veggie bacon slices and tomato slices. Put matching slice on top. When bread has browned nicely, flip the sandwich over. Brown the other side nicely, too. When it's done, the result is a more adult version of a childhood favorite that doesn't taste vegetarian at all. And sometimes, that's the point.
