Firstly, I should describe this location to you. Maggie, our GPS had a hard time finding the street because I typed in "Company" instead of "Co." Secondly, this cafe is one of the oldest restaurants in Sarasota. I found it on a website of all the oldest restaurants in the area. It is an eclectic store with a variety of natural items for sale. There are kegs of various kinds of oil available, a variety of pastes and dips, and large candy jars filled with dehydrated herbs--all available for purchasing. Certain oils and pastes were available for taste tests. My favorite was a Blood Orange Oil that was very sweet. It smelled fabulous and added a kick to my sandwich. Obviously, the display doesn't seem organized or good for attracting customers, but apparently it doesn't matter. They seemed to be doing a fine business.
Upon entering the cafe, we found two menus, one specifically for vegetarians with choices of sandwich or salad. All sandwiches came with chips or a side salad. So, as usual, we split the difference. We told them to deliver one with a salad and one with chips. The salad came with a great house balsamic vinegar dressing.
From the photo of the menu, we recall our sandwich choices. I had "The Med" with hummus, sprouts, feta cheese, and roasted red peppers. Paul chose the "Sprouting Giant" with apricot jam, avocados, sprouts, greens, tomatoes, and feta cheese. Both sandwiches had fabulous flavor. I was surprised that the sweetness of the jam did not overpower the sandwich, and I wished we had been able to take some of that hummus with it. Paul was very proud that all of my research before the trip paid off.
